Abstract
In this essay I use the metaphor of cultivation to reflect on the developing human relationship with the atmosphere and its weather. I suggest that the putative geoengineering projects of atmospheric purification and atmospheric enhancement constitute forms of cultivation. They resemble agricultural practices: progressive projects of development and supposed improvement through which new forms of weather will be produced.
